Whenever information is missing from this website, such as the weight of reels, it is due to the manufacturer not providing this information. Since it is impossible for me to have one of every reel in every size in stock, I cannot always do those measurements myself. Believe me when I tell you that I have made every effort to get this information, but I sometimes just do not succeed. Sorry to have to say this, but prices are subject to change without notice. Usually I will try to point these out to you via my newsletters. Please note that all Diameters (Dia.) and Widths (Wd.) are shown in inches while all Weights (Wt.) are shown in ounces. All prices are shown in United States currency. All capacities are shown assuming Scientific Anglers System or Cortland Micron backing unless otherwise stated. Here's to a great fishing year in 2003!

Payment Options

I'm sure you noticed that there is no shopping cart or on-line credit card included with this catalog. There are several reasons for this. Let's start with the credit card situation. I, personally, will never enter my own credit card number at any website. Yes, I know that security has improved significantly. But it still not foolproof, so I just don't do it. I, therefore, found it very difficult to expect my customers to do it for me. The best way to get me your credit card number is over the phone or by fax. My business phone is in my personal office in my home. No one has access to it but me! The same is true of the fax machine. Because of security issues, I still use an "old-fashioned" answering machine instead of voicemail. Unfortunately, voicemail is no more secure than e-mail.

I have had hundreds of customers leave their credit card information this way and have not had a single problem. The small cost (even for my foreign customers) is well worth the security. If you wish, order by e-mail and leave a phone/fax number where I can reach you and I'll make the call to get the card information. The shopping cart didn't make sense for several reasons. First of all, without a credit card at checkout it makes little sense. Beyond that, though, is the issue of getting every detail worked out. This is why I never had an order form in my paper catalog. The list runs to color options, LH or RH crank, spare spools, standard or progressive reelfoot, and other available options like engraving. It just seems that every customer has to be contacted at least once to clarify an order. To list every option on the web-site would have been burdensome to say the least. Place an order by faxing me or calling me directly. Be sure to leave your phone number, e-mail address, and/or fax number for me in case I have to contact you to clarify something. You are welcome to leave your order on my e-mail and then pay by money order or bankcheck to my PO Box.

Shipping Information

SPECIFICS ON SHIPPING
I ship all products in the contiguous United States free of charge under the following conditions:

1. Standard UPS ground or USPS Priority Mail is acceptable.
2. You allow me up to a week (usually less) to get it off to you.

If you need it now please let me know and I will ship any way you desire, including overnight. I will charge you what that shipping costs me, but will not tack on any extra shipping and handling charges which really is just additional profit. I know you are anxious to get your order, but if you can wait a bit I will pick up the charges. Foreign shipments are charged whatever I have to pay. I have had good luck with insured USPS air parcel post. If you'd prefer UPS, DHL, or Fed-Ex, please let me know, but it is considerably more expensive.

Once again I will use this space to point out to you items that are available, but due do space limitations and the intended focus of my business, cannot be featured in this catalog. First of all would be products from manufacturers whose fly reels are featured here. Three of my reelmakers also make their own cane rods, and they are excellent rods. Bellinger, LH Design, and Schukken Design are the three and I have personally used rods from each of these makers. Each has several different models and each also make rods with different actions. If you are looking for a cane rod with a feel closer to graphite give me a call. Arne Mason and Harding & Sons each make several different products for the flyfisher. Arne now makes leather rod tubes for multi-piece rods or for several rods to be included in one tube. In addition he has several different reel cases, leather fly wallets and can often be talked into doing something different if it involves leather. Harding & Sons has several different travel bags, multi-piece rod carriers, wader bags, rod and reel cases where the reel stays on the rod. I use several products from each of these companies and I would love to tell what I like about each. Understand that these will not be in stock, but waiting times are usually measured in weeks, not months.

I've mentioned that Loop Tackle makes fly lines, rods (especially double-handed models) and other flyfishing accessories which are now available in the U.S. The other items that you should know about are fly lines. I do not really want to be in the fly line business and therefore I stock very few of them, but I can get them for you if you need me to. I cannot get any of the Cortland 444 or 555 models. What I can get, though, are lines much tougher to find in most fly shops and catalogs. Air Flo makes several superb lines, most of which are completely memory free. People who use them absolutely rave about them and the prices are reasonable. Rio Products makes almost as many lines as SA or Cortland. I can get any of them for you, but I picked them up a few years ago because Jim Vincent makes the best spey lines I've ever casted. Though not inexpensive, they are terrific casting lines. I also enjoy fishing the Flow-Tek Monic clear floating lines. They make a tropic line, which is also available in an opaque version, and a all-weather model and they do float. They also cast very nicely. I've also come to enjoy many of the lines that Jim Teeny markets, especially his 5 foot mini-tips and the original and saltwater version of the Nymphline.

One last item. Most of you know that in addition to this website, I send three newsletters a year to my regular customers. Included in the newsletter is an updated listing of tackle, mostly reels, that are used or closeouts. I do not solicit for used tackle, but I'm interested in selling what my customers may want to turn over. I do both consignment and the occasional outright purchase of items for the secondary market. Contact me if this is of interest to you.
