fly reels are made in Sweden and offer features not available on
any other reel. Though large arbor reels are currently very popular,
the Loop Traditional is the only reel that I know of that does not
have a center spindle. Spools for this model ride on three roller
bearings. This allows for the light weight of these models, as well
as the almost nonexistent start-up found on these reels. The original
Traditional models are being phased out by Loop and will likely
not be available after mid-2003. They are being replaced by the
Modern Traditional, which actually has very few changes. The frame
has been cut out differently to eliminate the ventilating on the
back of the frame. The biggest difference is in the switch from
eleven models to only five. The evotec reel has been replaced by
the evotecLW and the evotecHD. Both feature hefty drags and are
serious big fish reels. The distributor for Loop here in the U.S.
is in Florida, and this is making a big difference in availability.
Service, warranty work, and other support is being provided by Loop
Tackle, USA in Oregon. Currently Loop has rods (they make terrific
and reasonably priced double-handed rods,) lines, and other fly
fishing accessories available in this country. Until other Loop
dealers decide to stock these products, I will be glad to get them
for you. I even have a few rods and lines in stock.
